Summary: What if Angela had made a different choice that day in the hotel

Author’s Note: I am not really happy with the ending of this chapter really, but it's the way it flowed so I went with it. Please leave feedback I really want to know what you guys think.

One year ago



“I can assure you we will handle him with the utmost secrecy if you allow us to create such an imprint,” Adeline Dewitt told her guest as she poured tea. The woman on the other side of the table frowned as she accepted the offered cup. “Only our most valued clients will be able to request it and only then after a additional background check, references and increased fees,” Dewitt added trying to sell the woman on her idea.



Finally her guest spoke. “I hope you understand I am not doing this to increase your business or your popularity,” the woman said in an icy tone, “but to protect him at any cost, that is why I contacted you in the first place.” Dewitt nodded, her guest was paying and paying handsomely for the Dollhouse’s services and Adeline would do everything in her power to accommodate her, while at the same time serving her superiors.



“It is so rare we receive older dolls,” Dewitt said in a soft tone meant to calm her guest’s ire and thank her at the same time, “with this imprint he would more then pay for his keep and ease your stress at the same time.” The woman considered this or pretended to anyway, Dewitt never noticed an odd gleam of pleasure spark in her eyes.



The woman sighed. “Very well, but in return I have a request to make of you, three in fact,” Dewitt nodded calmly as the woman pulled a picture out of her purse and pushed it across the table. “I want him to have a handler, who looks as close to this man as possible. I will explain why when and if the doll arrives here. Second, he is to be wiped clean as deep as you can go. I want him to have no memory of his former life and no possibility of gaining it back again.”



Dewitt nodded both requests could be handled well enough, however odd the first one seemed. “And the third request,” she asked calmly causing her guest to smile for the first time since entering the office. “Keep him away from my son,” said the woman taking a sip of her tea.



Adeline smiled again. “Your wish is our command Mrs. Petrelli.”

Present Day



Boyd yawned for what seemed like the fiftieth time and Kyle fought the urge to kill him. Instead the young man turned his attention to the monitors to double-check his doll’s progress.



Both Echo and Nylar were operating within parameters tonight even with the tweaks to the imprint Topher had done earlier. In fact, the crowd around Nylar was so dense, Kyle was starting to wonder if the older man could even breath much less talk to everyone who wanted a piece of his time.



“Would you look at that,” Boyd remarked pointing at the monitors, “all he has to do is smile and half the women throw their room keys at him. Kyle chuckled. “Imprint or not the man has natural charm, something I can’t say for the real Senator.”



Both men laughed and Boyd shook his head. “That guy goes through more emotional flip flops then any other celebrity in Hollywood,” Kyle answered glancing at the clock. “That’s a politician for you,” said Boyd giving Kyle a look, “time to bring them in?”



Kyle nodded and gave his doll the key word that would bring him back to the van as Boyd did the same for Echo. The handlers watched the chatting couple calmly a moment when Kyle spotted someone following them. He wouldn’t have though anything of it if the guy hadn’t been Kyle’s carbon copy down to the bangs that were starting to fall in his face.



He watched in shock as the man tapped Nylar on the shoulder and started talking to him. The senator imprint was designed to have all of Petrelli’s good qualities and a basic knowledge of real man’s background but that was it. If the guy wasn’t fooled then they might have a situation on their hands.



Nylar talked to the man a few minutes and seemed to appease him with a gentle touch to the shoulder. He and Echo then returned to the van much more subdued then they were a moment ago.



“Everything all right Senator and Mrs. Petrelli,” Kyle asked trying to sound less worried about his charge then he really was. “Yes everything is fine,” Nylar replied in that tone of voice that normally sent shivers down Kyle’s spine. “My brother just decided to make an unscheduled visit to LA is all.”



Boyd and Kyle looked at each other in stunned silence. “Oh shit,” Kyle muttered, “Dewitt is not going to like this."
